Safety On The Water

Solon Area Community Foundation Water Safety

We live in an area with water everywhere. Lake McBride, Coralville Reservoir, and Rivers offer lot of opportunity to enjoy some time on the water. Whether you enjoy fishing, water sports like skiing or tubing, or just a lazy day out in nature – there are plenty of options available to you.

Did you know 10 people drown every day and drowning is the leading cause of death in ages 1-4. This is the perfect time of year to think about a Water Safety course. The Iowa DNR has a Boater Education course on their website. https://www.iowadnr.gov/things-to-do/boating/boater-education

Boater education is mandatory for any person 12 – 17 years old, who will operate a motorboat over ten horsepower or personal watercraft (PWC). You can take the Iowa DNR course online and we recommend you get educated. Know the rules and be safe on the water.
